Can Facebook Inc (FB) Stock REALLY Soar More Than 40% Next Year?

WhatsApp could fix Facebook's slowing ad growth problem, and that makes FB stock look compelling here

By Luke Lango

WhatsApp has 1.2 billion monthly active users, as large as Messenger. But most of those users are abroad.

When FB starts monetizing WhatsApp, that will add somewhere between $10 and $20 billion in ad revenue per year.

Facebook generated just under $28 billion in revenue last year. So we are talking about an incremental 35% to 70% boost to the topline.

If You Own Facebook Inc (FB) Stock, Just Put This on Your Radar

The social networking giant may be about to feel the ill effects of its size

By James Brumley

Facebook and Google together are poised to win 85% of 2017’s increase in digital advertising spending.

FB controls nearly 40% of the U.S. display ad business, while Alphabet owns about 78% of the country’s search-ad revenue.

Cash-Rich Stocks to Buy: Facebook (FB)

Cash and investments: $35.5 billion

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) ended its second quarter with more than $35 billion in cash — and zero debt.

And that cash is just part of the reason FB stock still looks extremely attractive, even near all-time highs.

In terms of what Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to do with the cash, it’s unclear at the moment.

Facebook is generating more cash every quarter, including nearly $8 billion in just the first half of 2017. The company did announce a $6 billion repurchase program late last year, but it’s generating more than amount in cash already … meaning Facebook could add a dividend as well.

An acquisition could be in play down the line, particularly if Facebook wants to make a splash in video. That said, the company still has work to do in monetizing WhatsApp and Instagram. For now, it seems likely that Facebook will keep its options open.

But increased shareholder returns seem the most likely outcome unless Zuckerberg decides to make a major strategic move.

This Stock Has Climbed Over 45% So Far in 2017, and It Looks Headed Even Higher

by Jack Delaney

According to an Aug. 18, 2017, Business Insider report, Facebook filed a patent application for its “smart glasses.”

The smart glasses will let people see virtual objects overlaid onto real world images, similar to how “Pokemon Go” players can use their phones to have virtual images of the characters projected onto real-world settings.

I Think This Stock Will Rise to $200 in the Next 12 to 18 Months

by Richard Saintvilus

FB stock is no bargain, trading at 26 times fiscal 2018 estimates of $6.48 per share, compared to a forward P/E of 19 for the S&P 500 index.

But those estimates also assume year-over-year earnings growth of more than 21%, which is more than five times the S&P 500’s projected growth rate.

In the second quarter, while Facebook’s total revenue grew 45% YOY, topping Street estimates, it was down from 49% expansion in the first quarter, while down from 51% and 56% in the respective fourth and third quarters of 2016.

With 2 billion active users on the platform, Facebook’s massive advertising network will remain a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.

And the fact that half of the company’s revenue currently comes from North America suggests there’s still an underserved addressable market overseas that Facebook can tap into.

This Stock Still Has a Lot Higher to Climb

by Laura Hoy

Not only are we looking at the rollout of a potentially game-changing video service, but the firm is also expanding its social media offerings in order to remain the top dog within the space.

While there hasn’t been a lot of recent news regarding monetizing the firm’s messaging services, it’s important to note that Facebook’s control of the two largest messaging services in the world also provides a great growth catalyst.

Facebook

Top analysts feel that Facebook’s long-term forecasts are more easily attainable, especially as the company continues to grow and employ new platforms for online advertising. JPMorgan team noted numerous positives in its report to watch for going forward:

Engagement and momentum in video, including the company’s video tab. Watch and shows adoption, live Instagram stories and news feeds.

Video investments that include revenues sharing and seeding content.

Possible revenue deceleration as advertising load increases become a less significant factor in the second half of the year.

Accelerating spending in the second half driven by increased headcount and video content.

Messenger and WhatsApp monetization path.

Other top analysts that we cover on Wall Street agree and feel the company is poised to outperform both Alphabet and Amazon.com over the next year, and perhaps longer.

JPMorgan has a huge $210 price target on the stock. The Wall Street consensus price target is $192.62, and the stock closed trading on Tuesday at $170.72 a share.

“FB reported that over 1.3 billion people log in to Facebook daily and 2 billion are on the site monthly.

This led to the company generating $9.3 billion in revenue in the second quarter, up 45% from last year,” InvestorPlace recently reported.

Shares of Facebook are up 50.3% year-to-date and trade at 26.6 times forward earnings, a metric cementing the stock’s status as a growth name.

Monthly active users (MAUs) crossed the 2-billion-mark, representing a 17% year-over-year increase, and total advertising revenue was up 47% with increased share in mobile.

Importantly, revenues from the U.S. and Canada recovered, and there was growth seen across all geographies after a tepid first quarter, which incidentally didn’t slow down the FB stock price much.

And at 38x trailing earnings, Facebook valuation doesn’t feel like a stretch so long as it keeps posting growth figures comparable to the most recent quarter.
