Jim Chanos is short Alibaba

One specific China name he mentioned was Alibaba (BABA).

From CNBC:
[Chanos] said he has “real questions” about financial metrics and cash flow for Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce giant.

“We just don’t see how profitable or unprofitable that business is,” he told CNBC from the Sohn Investment Conference in New York.

Chanos, who added that he suspects Alibaba is unprofitable, did not say how large his position is.

Chanos was short on BABA before Nov 2015.

There is a chance that his shorts are not giving him profits or sufficient profits yet.

I may want to go for a Long position on BABA If it falls far enough. There is still the crazy Single Sales day in Nov to look forward to.

Not vested at the moment.

SEC investigating Alibaba's accounting practices

BENGALURU: Alibaba Group Holding Ltd said it was being investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission over whether the Chinese e-commerce company’s accounting practices violated any federal laws.

The company has provided the SEC with information about its accounting for logistics unit Cainiao Network as well as operating data from its Singles’ Day shopping festival, according to Alibaba’s annual report filed on Tuesday.

The SEC advised the company that the investigation should not be seen as an indication that Alibaba had violated federal securities laws, Alibaba said.

Up to Tuesday’s close, Alibaba’s stock had fallen 12.3% in the last 12 months.
