4Q Results

For the fourth quarter, the company reported $213.4 billion in revenue, up 13.6% year over year, and topping Wall Street’s revenue expectations of $211.5 billion.

It also reported earnings of $1.95 per share, which was a penny short of Wall Street’s estimate.

Amazon Web Services remained a key growth engine, generating $35.6 billion in revenue during the quarter. But despite those results, Amazon’s shares fell as much as 10% on Friday after the company outlined gargantuan spending plans and a softer-than-expected guidance.

In short, management expects to spend $200 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, as it ramps up investment across AI, chips, robotics and other long-term initiatives. That was also well above market estimates of about $146 billion.

At the same time, Amazon forecast operating income of between $16.5 billion and $21.5 billion for the coming quarter, below expectations of roughly $22.2 billion.

That combination – heavier spending now and more modest near-term profitability – appeared to dampen the mood.

Still, the market’s reaction made one thing clear: Investors are increasingly focused on the timing of those returns, not just their potential.

AI-Fueled AWS Acceleration Lifts Profits, Capex Ramps Further

Adjusted (Adj) net profit reached USD23.1bn (+15% y/y, +33% q/q) ~9% above street, supported by adj operating margin surprise partially offset by the higher-than-expected tax rate

Revenue rose to USD213bn (+14% y/y, +18% q/q) inline with consensus with increase driven by AWS growth of 24% y/y to USD35.6bn (up 8% q/q) and solid holiday-season e-commerce performance

Capex intensity remains elevated, with management guiding ~USD200bn (~53% y/y) of capex for 2026 as AI and data-centre buildout accelerates

Target Price* US 280
Recommendation BUY

Amazon.com Inc. - US$200bn CAPEX in FY26

4Q25 adjusted PATMI were in line with expectations, while revenue outperformed due to strength in AWS (+24% YoY), the fastest growth in 13 quarters. FY25 Revenue/Adjusted PATMI were at 101%/100% of our FY25e forecasts.

TTM free cash flow -71% YoY due to increased investment in AI. AMZN has guided +60% YoY CAPEX spend in FY26e.

We increase our FY26e revenue by 2% and PATMI by 4% to account for the growing demand in AWS as well as continued cost discipline efforts in the retail segment.

We increase our FY26e CAPEX by 30% to account for the higher-than-expected AI investment.

We also reduce equity beta from 0.8 to 0.75 because AMZN’s earnings volatility has declined structurally, with AWS now representing a larger share of operating profit.

We roll over another year of valuations and decrease our DCF target price to US$280 (prev. US$290).

We upgrade our recommendation from ACCUMULATE to BUY due to the recent price rally.
