TENCENT TP Raised to $198; Stay at Light-Asset High-Growth Platform - Macquarie

Macquarie said in a report that TENCENT (00700.HK) +1.100 (+0.731%) Short selling $875.93M; Ratio 22.379% 's 3Q15 revenue topped market estimates by 5% mainly on the strong ads and mobile game revenue.

Moreover, Tencent made No.1 in nine different product lines with over 650m mobile MAU.

The research house believed that Tencent would stay on a light-asset yet high-growth platform in the long term.

It raised 2016/17 EPS forecasts for Tencent by 2% and 4% to reflect stronger games and ads.

The stock was reiterated at Outperform, with the target price lifted from $197 to $198.

<Research Report>HSBC: TENCENT TP Raised to $183, Fastest Quarterly Revenue Growth in Last 5 Quarters

TENCENT (00700.HK)'s revenue in the third quarter grew 34% yearly, marking the fastest growth over the recent five quarters.

The rating was maintained at Buy and the target price was revised up to $183 from $173, implying a 2016 P/E of 30x.

The research house said that the group's non-GAAP OPM was only 40%, lower than its expectation of 42%, mainly due to lower GPM and higher than expected selling and marketing costs.

<Research Report>TENCENT's Target Cut to $173; LT Growth Potential Still Exists - M Stanley

Morgan Stanley, in its report, TENCENT(00700.HK)'s new online game strategy led to a 60% annual increase in its mobile game revenue.

Its advertising grew 102% yearly, supported by video, mobile news app and Weixin.

The rating was maintained at Overweight.

The broker expected its Weixin payment to dilute margin in near term but saw significant upside in long term.

Due to a higher cost, the broker lowered its earnings forecast in 2015-2017 by 5%, 4% and 4% respectively.

Its DCF-based target price was slightly cut from $176 to $173, implying 33x 2016 P/E.

Goldman Sachs, in its report, reiterated TENCENT (00700.HK) at Buy and included the stock in its CL-Buy list.

In the broker's opinion, TENCENT is the leader in the social media and game sectors, being the most well-positioned internet company in China.

Its weixin became the world's first super-app. In addition, the company?s dominance in gaming, both PC and mobile, should lead to a sustained period of outperformance.

Its target price was lifted from $176 to $202.

Goldman Sachs stated that TENCENT's new game IPs can drive its revenue growth. Furthermore, the company's online ad revenues in the third quarter surged by 102% yearly.

Its O2O strategy started bearing fruit and growth was recorded in high-margin segments.

Ma Huateng Cuts Holdings in TENCENT to Cash in $3.868B

According to the disclosure of interests on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, TENCENT (00700.HK)'s chairman Ma Huateng reduced its holdings in the company by 25.0566 million shares with an average price of $154.38, on four consecutive trading days from 30 November to 3 December.

Therefore, Ma Huateng has cashed in $3.868 billion and his shareholding in the company dropped to 9.1% from 9.36%.

G Sachs Cuts TENCENT's TP to $193; Remained Top Pick of Mainland Internet Stocks

Goldman Sachs, in its report, said the change of fundamentals of mainland internet stocks is limited.

However, considering the factor of weak RMB, the research house lowered the target price of the mainland internet stocks, including TENCENT (00700.HK) -4.600 (-3.226%) Short selling $637.32M; Ratio 20.505% , with target price cut to $193 from $202 and rating kept at Buy.

It also reiterated TENCENT to be Conviction Buy.

The research house said TENCENT remains the top pick of the industry, yet lowered its EPS forecast for 2016 and 2017 by 3% and 5% respectively.

It also suggested other mainland internet stocks at Buy, including Alibaba, Baidu and Netease etc.

Nomura, in its report, reiterated Buy on TENCENT (00700.HK).

Its DCF-based target price was lifted from $170 to $190, implying 28x 2017 P/E.

The broker said TENCENT's Wechat Payment was quite competitive among its Chinese peers and it could be the new catalyst.

Its mobile/online games were expected to record sustainable growth. There will also be a surging growth for online advertising.

TENCENT's Wechat Payment gained market share through 2015, on the back of the partnership with Meituan Dianping, a large-scaled O2O company in China.

Furthermore, Nomura expected TENCENT's revenue from online games can grow 18% and 15% yearly in 2016 and 2017.

<Research Report>Macquarie Expects TENCENT 4Q15 Non-GAAP Net Profit Up 37% YoY to RMB9.2B

Macquarie, in its report, expected TENCENT (00700.HK) to announce steady fourth quarter results on 17 March, thanks to the strong growth in revenue from advertisement and games.

It is estimated that the revenue in fourth quarter of 2015 rose 35% yearly to RMB28.3 billion and non-GAAP net profit surged by 37% to RMB9.2 billion.

The stock was kept at Outperform due to its stable revenue growth. It can be the safe haven in times of market turmoil. The target price was set at HK$198.

The group's top executive mentioned on a recent speech that WeChat's users will log in the app for more than 30 times per day. Therefore, the broker was bullish on WeChat's ad revenue.
