Lee Shau Kee, founder of Henderson Land Group, dies at 97

Lee was born into a middle-class family which owned gold and silver shops in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. He moved to Hong Kong when he was 20 years old and founded his own property firm, Henderson Land, in 1976.

In 2018, he kept his promise that he would donate HK$1 billion (S$171.4 million) to charities when the city’s blue-chip Hang Seng Index reached 30,000 points.

How Hong Kong’s second-richest billionaire Lee Shau Kee built a $30B empire: 4 principles for success

By Minh Hieu

"Small businesses rely on diligence, while large businesses depend on precise calculations."

"Opportunities in a crisis are reserved for those who have guts"

"Only by remaining composed during a crisis can you seize the right opportunities."

"If you choose to farm, then just keep working hard at farming."

As long as you choose the right direction and stay on the right path, you can easily become rich.

He always kept his composure and patiently waited for the right opportunities to make well-calculated decisions.

He understood that success does not come from fleeting strokes of luck but from the steady accumulation of knowledge and experience over time.

"I think simply knowing how to make money should not be considered a success".
"It is equally important to know how to spend it well. And the best way to spend money is on charity."

4 wealth lessons for young people from Hong Kong’s second-richest billionaire Lee Shau Kee

By Hai Trieu

Advised young people to choose the right career, work hard, use money to make money and not marry too soon.

"A man’s greatest fear is establishing a career in the wrong industry while a woman’s greatest fear is choosing the wrong husband."

"Starting small with savings is the right choice because the first asset is the most important. It serves as a stepping stone that makes success easier. This capital must come from diligence and frugality. What people call 'great wealth from the heavens' is not about leaving things to fate but about adapting to the right time and place without forcing things."
