Not vested. Have not noticed this company. Sephora and Watson is still doing well. Sa Sa is not too bad either.
Bonjour set to gingerly enter mainland market by Larry Wong
Monday, July 12, 2010
Bonjour Holdings (0657) will open its first mainland outlet in Guangzhou later this month, representing a cautious move into the Middle Kingdom.
The company takes its first step across the border in light of rising salaries that have boosted demand for cosmetics.
Bonjour intends to explore the mainland market after the opening of its first outlet, executive director Chan Chi-chau told Singtao Daily, a sister publication of The Standard.
Further expansion will only be considered when the operation of the first store is fully established and the company has a firm grasp on the mainland market along with a thorough knowledge of actual demand, Chan said. Thus, opening a second store is not in Bonjour's immediate plan, he said.
With the growth in the Hong Kong market, Bonjour expects to open no more than three new stores each year. This approach has been adopted to avoid losses caused by excessive expansion, Chan said.
Bonjour's rival, Sa Sa International Holdings (0178), already operates 38 stores in the mainland.
Entry into the mainland is hindered by import tax, which subsequently leads to higher product costs. So shelf prices across the border will inevitably be 20 to 30 percent higher than in Hong Kong.
Only a quarter of the existing products will be available in the mainland.
