In the US, Tesla delivered 11,507 Model S vehicles in the second quarter, a 52 percent on-year rise.

BYD Company (1211 HK)

1Q16 EV sales in China were capped by policy overhang as not all local governments had announced their new subsidy schemes for 2016.

In addition, subsidies for small to mid-sized electric buses are widely expected to be cut further.

However, with almost all local governments having announced their 2016 subsidy cuts in Mar-Apr 16 and the subsidy cuts for electric buses well expected, EV sales in China could pick up from 2Q16.

Our pick is BYD (1211 HK). BYD is the largest EV manufacturer in China, and has the most extensive product portfolio among all EV manufacturers in Hong Kong. It could benefit from China’s burgeoning EV sales.
