I like the strong earnings visibility for the next few years. Any additional contracts will directly add on to its coffer of existing orders. More construction companies are also listing recently to obtain funds for expansion capabilities in face of a fresh round of construction activity. Vested.

Lian Beng's FY2010 net profit up 41%

CONSTRUCTION company Lian Beng Group's net profit for the financial year ended May 31 grew 41.3 per cent from a year back to $24.04 million. Revenue was up 12 per cent to $345.71 million.

The better earnings were driven by a strong performance across its construction, property development and ready-mixed concrete divisions. Higher contributions from the property development and ready-mixed concrete divisions boosted revenue to a record $345.7 million, from $308.4 million in FY2009.

Earnings per share surged 41 per cent to 4.54 cents, from 3.21 cents the year before.

In view of its strong performance, Lian Beng is declaring a first and final cash dividend of 0.4 cent per share, and a special dividend of 0.4 cent per share. Together, this represents a dividend payout ratio of 17 per cent.

A year ago it paid a first and final dividend of 0.4 cent a share and a special dividend of 0.20 cents a share.

Not vested. From Kim Eng:-

Lian Beng Group (LBG SP, $0.305, NOT RATED)

One of Singapore’s major builders, Lian Beng has secured more than $500m worth of construction contracts year‐to‐date for a total orderbook of $875m.

It had a good start to the financial year with 1QFY May11 net profit of $10.9m, already 45% of its FY10 net profit.

A few big projects might be up for tender soon, such as Farrer Court and South Beach, estimated to be worth over $1b in construction work.

Lian Beng’s growth looks set to accelerate if it wins any of the tenders.

Lian Beng (BUY, TP S$0.715).

Main contractor Lian Beng no longer rides on the booms and bust of construction sector. 4QFY11 earnings were in-line with our estimates, coming in at S$11.6m, up 73.8% YoY, on the back of strong construction demand.

FY11 was a record year, with earnings hitting S$48.2m, well within our expectations of S$47.6m. LBG is set to ride on Singapore's current building boom, from both public and private projects and its ventures in private residential and industrial developments will help boost its bottom line.

As at May 2011, LBG has a healthy order book of S$839m (up from S$661m in Feb 11). The contracts will run till FY14, lending some visibility to its earnings.

LBG’s cash hoard, which stands at S$149.9m, will allow it to grow its property development business. On the back of strong construction demand and LBG’s strong track record of project wins (it secured two projects worth S$279.5m in Jun 11), we estimate LBG’s FY12 earnings to come in at S$54.1m, which suggests a prospective P/E of just 3.3x.

Our TP of S$0.715 is pegged to sector average of 7x prospective P/E.
