RESEARCH ALERT-Kim Eng ups Fraser & Neave target to S$8.70

SINGAPORE, April 26 (Reuters) - Kim Eng Securities has raised its target price for Singapore's food and beverage and property conglomerate Fraser and Neave (F&N) to S$8.70 from S$8.54 and kept its buy rating.

STATEMENT: Kim Eng has raised its target price for F&N to account for higher marked-to-market valuations of its listed investments, and as the firm's residential projects saw healthy take-up despite the Singapore government's measures to cool property prices.

"As of September last year, the group has a war chest of S$3 billion in undrawn facilities that it can use to seize opportunities in both the property and F&B segments," said Kim Eng in a report.

F&N could also see share price catalysts from the potential divestment of a shopping mall in Singapore into its real estate investment trust.

At 0205 GMT, shares of F&N were 0.16 percent higher at S$6.27, but have fallen about 2 percent since the start of the year.

Yes, I am aware of this. I thought that was politically motivated. I wanted to collect this recently when it hit $5.60 but was distracted. Before I knew it, it picked up steam so quickly when news broke about its MOU with a Jap developer on its Sydney project. With Kirin on board, I have a different view of this ticker.

This ticker bounces prettily this week, from $5.66 to $5.98 :D

RESEARCH ALERT-CLSA upgrades Fraser & Neave to buy

SINGAPORE, Nov 2 (Reuters) - CLSA has upgraded Singapore's food and beverage and property conglomerate Fraser and Neave (F&N), to buy from outperform and raised its target price to S$7.57 from S$6.90.

STATEMENT: CLSA said F&N's share price could be boosted by the expansion of its food and beverage business into new markets such as Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as the divestment of non-core assets.

"We believe F&N's proven model, good products and superior marketing strategy can be replicated in these new markets," said CLSA.

The brokerage expects F&N to report a three percent rise in its fourth quarter core earnings from a year ago on November 15.

"The results will be supported by healthy earnings from breweries, soft drinks and property development segments, but offset by dairies, due to elevated input costs," said CLSA in a report.

At 0705 GMT, F&N shares were 0.49 percent higher at S$6.12, but have fallen 4.5 percent since the start of the year.

Undergoing transition

FNN SP / FRNM.SI | NEUTRAL - Downgrade | Share Price S$6.43 - Tgt. S$6.75

Growth in breweries was exemplary yet again in 1Q12. But 2012 looks like a transition year for the group as it adjusts to life without Coke and faces another tug-of-war with property buyers.

The stock has done well last year. Downgrade to Neutral on valuations.

Core earnings in 1Q12 (S$148m) was within expectations at 29% of our forecast; 21% of consensus.

We raise our target price (15% disc to SOP) and adjust our FY12-14 core EPS by +17%/-6% to factor in changes to our presales recognitions estimate and accretion from recent land wins.
