yo la pap,

pls read e announcement made on 17-june, i'm surprised at e communicated info. (Not bad actually).

6. ecoWise has re-aligned their corporate strategies, into 2 clusters:

- recovery & recycling
- bio-renewable energy

http://info.sgx.com/webcoranncatth.nsf/ ... penelement

pls take a look at e bio-gas digestor to use methane CH4 to generate renewable energy ... impt.

Co. might have scalability model for this. EG: cows generally produce lots of methane, do u know that?

NB: Methane is the simplest alkane, and the principal component of natural gas. Methane's bond angles are 109.5 degrees. Burning methane in the presence of oxygen produces carbon dioxide and water. The relative abundance of methane and its clean burning process makes it a very attractive fuel. However, because it is a gas at normal temperature and pressure, methane is difficult to transport from its source. In its natural gas form, it is generally transported in bulk by pipeline or LNG carriers; few countries still transport it by truck.

ecoWise was published in theEdge - latest copy, there r some additional inputs:

7. according to teoh teik kee, a decline in surface-blasting activities in local shipyards led to a 11% fall in 1H'08 revenue to $10.4Mil, and he's diversifying e earnings using e renewable-energy segment.

8. e sungei kadut company's biomass congeneration plan generates up to 1MW of electricity for every 5 tonnes of waste wood burnt to produce ~ 15,000KG of high-pressure steam/ hr to turn e turbines. A dryer will be installed end'08, this's powered by e steam and electrical energy to dry spent grains (oats) into compost/ animal feed.

9. ecoWise energy BU is managed by newly-appointed GM, jacky yang.

10. 9-may'08: ecoWise has been upgraded to sgx mainboard w market cap. $71Mil.

Hi san,

I read through the link for the briefing, and I do agree they had made a huge step forward to inform shareholders what they are planning to do. Seems like an important milestone for their investor relationships :)

I do know about the biogas as I used to specialize in wastewater treatment in my civil engineering days. For wastewater treatment, the sludge (solid part) is separated from the effluent (liquid part) and dumped into this anaerobic 'digestor' for a few varieties of bacteria to convert into methane. I remembered that it's actually very difficult to maintain the community of the micro-organisms used for sludge digestion. Change in conditions or heavy metal contaminants found in the sludge can dislodge the fragile relationship between the species of microbes that resulted from months of cultivation before the sludge digestor opens officially. The resulting operation provides the methane that can be used to generate electricity to power up part of the wastewater treatment plant operations, and excess power can be sold off.

I think ecowise isn't that much different from this model. I do wonder how they can get constant supply of organic waste to feed the communities of microbes used in the biogas digestor. They, like humans, must be fed constantly, otherwise they will die off...which means another few months of lost productivity to re-cultivate the microbes. This biogas digestor is situated in Singapore, yes?

dear papillion,

yes, biogas shld be situated in singapore, but not stated where ... u shld update your friend on this.

btw, u r talk'g to a microbiologist leh.

yeah, e industrial sludge application for e fed-batch fermentation process [in smaller scale] is hard to maintain consistency & efficiency. i'm surprised u know so much ...

Hoho, I know you're a microbiologist and I'm just a half-filled pail of water :)

If located in Singapore and they use manure, I wonder how they can get so much manure to constantly feed the microbes. The only place i can think of is either near the zoo, or near seng choon farm area. In singapore, there is practically no more animal farming. I remembered them saying a possibility of placing the digestor near landfills...does singapore still have landfills? I thought we had already moved from landfilling (there's one in tamp in the past) to incineration then landfill. After incineration,is there still enough 'food' for microbes to digest?
