Singapore’s Big Winner of the Week: Q & M Dental Group (Singapore) Limited By Sudhan P

Q & M Dental Group (Singapore) Limited (SGX: QC7), the largest private dental practice in Singapore, has gained some 13% in price since last Friday to end at S$0.90 yesterday.

In comparison, the Straits Times Index (SGX: ^STI), Singapore’s market benchmark, only put on 0.3% during the same time frame. This makes Q & M one of the biggest winners in the local share market this week.

Q & M’s current share price of S$0.90 marks the highest close ever in the company’s history since going public in 2009; Since its listing, Q & M’s shares have jumped by more than 230% in price.

Some of those gains may be attributed to the announcements made by the company in recent times.

Earlier this month, Q & M announced that it is “exploring a spin-off of its dental business in China and Malaysia. Q & M Dental Holdings (China) Pte Ltd and Q & M Dental Group (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd are both looking for a possible listing on a reputable stock exchange”.

This piece of news comes on top of announcements Q & M had made even earlier that it would be spinning off its subsidiary in China, Q & M Aidite International Pte Ltd, through an initial public offering and that it will gobble up all the shares of TP Dental Surgeons Pte. Ltd, a dental practice based in Singapore.

Then, on just Tuesday this week, Q & M revealed that it is looking to acquire a total of eight dental clinics in Singapore. The clinics would cost around S$20 million, which will be payable in both cash (S$10.9 million) and Q & M’s shares (S$9.5 million). The deal comes with total profit guarantees of around S$16.1 million for a period of up to 10 years (S$9.91 million for a period of 10 years; S$3 million for a period of six years; and S$3.2 million for eight years) and service agreements with the various dentists involved in the acquisition.

Dr. Ng Chin Siau, Group Chief Executive Officer of Q & M, commented on the acquisition:

“We are delighted to welcome our new partners into the Q & M family and would also like to take this opportunity to thank them for believing in Q & M. We believe that the mergers are central to our future ambition, and to bringing our shared vision – To provide quality and accessible dental healthcare – to more people.”

Shares of Q & M are now valued at a whopping] 77 times the firm’s historical earnings.

Three reasons to accumulate Q&M Dental

By Gwyneth Yeo

SINGAPORE (July 25): RHB is adding 200,000 shares of Q&M Dental Group at 70 cents each, into its model portfolio, This follows the group’s acquisition of a 33% stake in Shenzhen New Perfect Dental Research. RHB has a target price of $1 for the stock.

According to RHB’s analyst Jarick Seet, the Shenzhen acquisition comes with a profit guarantee of $1.03 million a year. As such, he estimates that earnings would reach about $17 million for FY2016, representing an earnings growth of 25%.

Q&M Dental was founded in 1996, when CEO Ng Chin Siau started his dental practice as a sole proprietorship under the name “Q&M Dental Surgery”. Now, the group owns 68 dental clinics and two dental supplies and equipment distribution companies, and operates out of Singapore, Malaysia and China.

While Singapore contributes the biggest proportion to group revenue, the revenue contributed by China over the last two years has risen by 21 percentage points to 23% in FY2015, on the back of the group’s acquisitions. Seet believes Q&M Dental would “likely to continue its acquisition spree in China which will likely contribute to its NPAT growth.”

Another potential catalyst lies in the two proposed spin-off listings for the group’s China business. One of them includes the listing of the group’s dental hospitals, clinics, and a dental equipment and supplies distribution business held by its subsidiary Q&M Dental Holdings (China) Pte Ltd.

The listing, which is subject to shareholders’ approval, is currently in the process of finalizing the terms of a restructuring exercise to list on a “reputable stock exchange”.

The second potential spin-off is for Q&M Aidite International, which manufactures zirconium oxide blocks in China, which are used in dental Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) machines to fabricate dental prosthesis.

Aidite is expected to list on the New Third Board of China, and has already received a no-objection letter from the Singapore Exchange for the spin-off.

Furthermore, Seet noted that Q&M Dental’s shares are trading at 37.8 times earnings, a valuation that is much lower than its local and overseas peers who are trading at 42.2 times earnings and 54.3 times earnings respectively.

Shares of Q&M Dental closed flat at 70 cents.

Q&M Dental Group - Taking Three Small Bites (BUY, TP SGD1.08, QNM SP, Healthcare)

Q&M has acquired Singapore-based Ho Dental Surgery, Toofy and Jurong Point Dental Surgery.

Priced at 7-8x P/E, three deals will provide 5-8 years of profit guarantee of SGD0.4m pa.

Aside from the cheap valuation, these small acquisitions will enable Q&M to expand its footprint, tap into a wider customer database, and extract greater profitability from improving the existing operations.

Maintain BUY and TP of SGD1.08. Catalysts: News flow from spin-offs and further expansions.
