dear qxing,
Glad that u started this thread. (thank you)
juz to share w you: i was in e Brand Finance Asia Pacific Forum (during march) when Banyan Tree mr. Ho Kwon Ping was invited as a VIP on to chair this forum ... later in e night, he was featured in CNA news [as usual].
for your info., they use western valuations to weigh out their brands, & engage 3rd parties UK company to do so. here's e extract from e forum:
Mr. Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree Holdings, was the keynote speaker for the Brand Finance Asia Pacific Forum. He highlighted the increasing importance of brand valuation in this new economy, especially for transactions like initial public offerings. Banyan Tree Holdings engaged Brand Finance in 2005 to ascertain the value of the Banyan Tree trademarks in order to facilitate its listing.
if u r taking another approach to know more abt Banyan Tree Branding, i suggest u pick up this book <Branding in Asia> by Paul Temporal, 2000 edition - is e one i am shelving ... under Brand Management chapter, pg. 155 whereby Banyan Tree Brand was highlighted & elabourated.
(likewise, after attending e Forum, my outlook changed. i tend to look into e accountability of these intangible assets, particularly for retail/ food/ & hospitality service-related trades companies).
