Fake volunteers went around Bugis Junction asking for donations using Singapore Heart Foundation stickersCharity organization Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) has since filed a police report on Sunday regarding a group of “volunteers” who’ve been campaigning for donations at Bugis Junction on Feb 19, and presumably pocketed the funds for themselves.
To make themselves seem legit, SHF’s Flag Day stickers were used, invoking the name of the organisation in the (fake) efforts to “help students and ex-convicts.”
SHF Chief Executive Officer Vernon Kang stated that the SHF “has not commissioned any volunteers to carry out fund raising activities at the said date/venue”.
He also clarified that actual representatives of the SHF will always have on them ID badges — displaying the name of each individual fundraiser — and a copy of the Collectors Certificate of Authority (CCA), issued by the National Council of Social Service.
Thus, if any member of the public wishes to verify the authenticity of said individual volunteer, they should just request the volunteer’s full name or ID badge number.
Closing his statement, Kang assured the public that the SHF “does not condone such activities”.
A netizen pointed out that the fake volunteers can sometimes be seen canvassing for donations at JEM and the vicinity of Raffles Place MRT.
