Don’t make this mistake or your bank accounts could be in jeopardy by Michael Snyder

Do you have a bank account that you don’t actively use or a safe deposit box that you haven’t checked on in a while? If so, you might want to see if the government has grabbed your money.

This sounds absolutely crazy, but it’s true. All over the world, governments are shortening the time periods required before they can seize “dormant bank accounts” and “unclaimed property.”

Air stewardess accused of cheating bag lovers of $500,000 in online scam

SINGAPORE - A 30-year-old air stewardess has been reportedly selling designer bags online and convincing customers to pay an initial deposit - only to never actually deliver the bags.

Some victims have lodged police reports, while others have gone to the Small Claims Tribunals. She is estimated to have cheated victims of a total sum as high as $500,000.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that since last October, there have been several Internet users claiming to have been scammed in a similar manner.

One of the victims, who uses the online nickname of Pinkmama85, agreed to share her side of the story. The 29-year old woman said that in July last year, she came across the stewardess' online offer of selling designer bags at a discounted price. Taken in by the offer, she placed an order for five bags and transferred $30,000 to the stewardess' bank account.

Later in September, she received a bag from the stewardess worth $15,000. Attempts to contact the stewardess on the other bags were either brushed off or ignored. In November, the seller became uncontactable.

She later learned that she was not the only victim when online research unveiled other victims. One of them told her that she had lost $10,000 to the scammer.

Not wanting others to fall prey to the purported scam, some of the victims have uploaded and shared a photo of the stewardess online, hoping that other victims might come forward too.

The uploaded photo shows a sweet-looking air stewardess in her uniform.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that it is common for flight attendants to leverage on their business trips abroad to purchase brand name products at cheaper prices for others. With designer bags easily costing three to four thousand dollars each, selling them back in Singapore allows these attendants to earn a commission on these purchases.

Gardasil

The President's Cancer Panel wants all girls and young women to get a Gardasil shot.

Girls as young as 13.

The panel sent a letter to Obama asking him to take a "public stand" to get girls vaccinated. It outlined a promotional plan to snag as many of these young woman as possible into getting these HPV shots.

So here's what I want to know.

What about Obama's daughters? Sasha has just turned 13 and Malia is now 16. Have they been given shots of Gardasil or Cervarix?

And if not, why not?

And don't tell me that's too personal a question.

Because if the president's own advisory panel is laying down an advertising campaign to lure our daughters and granddaughters into getting this dangerous vaccine, I think we deserve to know whether the Obamas themselves are buying into the program.

Has Michelle looked at any of the 31,000 adverse reaction reports to these HPV vaccines? Does the White House doctor stock it in his supply cabinet?

I'm sure the parents of girls who have been injured by these shots, and especially those who have died after getting it, would like answers to those questions, too.

This is one of the best scams I’ve heard about.

You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk.

Typically when checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for any charges to your room).

You go to your room and settle in. All is good.

The hotel receives a call and the caller asks for (as an example) room 620 - which happens to be your room.

The phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the other end says the following: 'This is the front desk. When checking in, we came across a problem with your charge card information.

Please re-read me your credit card number and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side of your charge card.'

Not thinking anything wrong, since the call seems to come from the front desk you oblige.

But actually, it is a scam by someone calling from outside the hotel.

They have asked for a random room number, then ask you for your credit card and address information.

They sound so professional, that you think you are talking to the front desk.

If you ever encounter this scenario on your travels, tell the caller that you will be down to the front desk to clear up any problems. Then, go to the front desk or call directly and ask if there was a problem.

If there was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone tried to scam you of your credit card information, acting like a front desk employee.

HONG KONG TAXI SCAM TARGETS DRUNK FOREIGNERS

A Hong Kong taxi cab scam is targeting foreigners that frequent pubs in Lan Kwai Fong and Wan Chai, reports Sing Tao Daily.

The scam works by first picking up an inebriated foreigner with the rear window lowered a few inches. When the passenger arrives at his or her destination, gets out, and closes the door, the rear window will often shatter.

The cab driver will then accuse the passenger of slamming the door too hard and breaking the window. In their drunken state, foreigners have been known to provide up to HK$2,000 (US $258) in compensation.

What the cab drivers are actually doing is exploiting a design flaw of these taxi cabs. When the rear window is lowered a few inches, it can hit against the door joint, causing it to shatter upon being closed.

A number of cases have been reported to police. In one case the passenger was forced to provide compensation despite police involvement because no witnesses were at the scene.

As EJ Insight reports, Kwan Yuk-wah, chairman of the Urban Taxi Drivers Association Joint Committee, said the normal charge for repairing a damaged window is HK$300. Kwan added that taxi drivers usually remind passengers not to slam the door if the window is lowered.

No word on if or when the design flaw will be fixed.
