Media mogul James Packer puts his 'Z Sidney' superyacht on sale

Australian gaming and media mogul James Packer seems to have had enough fun aboard his Z Sidney superyacht, and has now listed it up for sale with Burgess for €15.9 million ($23 million). The superyacht is listed under the name Ares, the Greek god of war. Back in February, aging rock star Sting was seen spending some leisure time with bikini-clad beauties aboard James Packer’s 46-meter Z Sidney superyacht.

The luxury yacht played host to some of the renowned names from the entertainment industry, including Tom Cruise, Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. Launched last year, the Leopard 46 (Ares )accommodates 10 to 12 guests in five luxurious staterooms. With its 2,400 hp MTU 16V 2000 M93 engines, the Ares can hit a top speed of up to 35 knots.

Interestingly, Packer has also sold his other luxury yacht Z Ellerston, a Mangusta 165. It seems like the Australian billionaire is buying something bigger and better to entertain him and his friends on the waters.

Esthec solar-powered yacht

Designer Dennis Ingemansson continues to impress us with his futuristic designs. A few months back we covered his Flying Apartment Systems, and now he has come up with an impressive yacht design that being apart offering a luxury retreat also promises an eco-friendly cruise.

Designed for the Dutch company Esthec, the superyacht joining the massive green world movement generates power from solar energy. Slated to be exhibited at Monaco Yacht Show, the superyacht utilizes sophisticated composite decking material, with complete design freedom in form, color and pattern.

Touting a unique floor, the sustainable yacht integrates functional qualities, such as light weight, the ability to recycle it and low maintenance. The Esthec superyacht also includes a swimming pool at the rear deck, where you may relax in fresh water.

I dont normally look at the non-financial topics on week-days but this article was in a couple of my news alert this morning.

I'm sure the Taxation Department and the Anti-Corruption guys will be looking at this news with interest.

And did this guy added a zero or two somewhere. 3 Billion GBP sounds a bit too much ...

Introducing the £3billion super yacht made of gold and platinum

The was built for a Malaysian businessman by British designer Stuart Hughes. It is 30.5m (100ft) long and is claimed to feature around 100,000kg of solid gold and platinum – making it worth a reported £3billion.

Its main sleeping quarter is adorned with platinum accents, including a wall feature made of stone from a meteor - and bone from a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The hull is also wrapped in a thin layer of gold, while precious metals were used to make the deck, dining area, rails and anchor.

The British-designed yacht was made for a mystery Malaysian businessman and designer Stuart Hughes said it took him three years to complete.

The 40-year-old from Liverpool worked on the commission – called The History Supreme – with a team of eight people. ‘It was probably the most mammoth task ever,’ he said. ‘I’ve covered all sorts of things in gold but this has got to be my most ambitious project yet. This will never be topped.’

Mr Hughes, who has also used gold to customise other luxury goods like iPads and iPhones, added: ‘He wanted a plane doing as well but the thing would never take off if we did.

‘So he said “can you do the yacht?” and I said we’ll give it a crack and then it was pretty much a case of “can you make this gold, can you make that gold?” We just did what we were told and are delighted with the result.’

The yacht, built in Italy, was completed in Malaysia about two weeks ago. ‘I believe it will be mostly in dry dock, it won’t be used, it is just for show,’ Mr Hughes said.

According to the World Gold Council, some 165,600 tonnes had been mined at their last estimate in 2009, meaning that the craft has nearly one per cent of the world’s gold.
