Why should we choose to do right actions at all times?

Neither sorrow nor pleasure can ever be permanent for anyone. All that we do, good or bad, knowingly or unknowingly, will produce results. So it is necessary for us to do good so that the consequences will also be good.

When a child is born out of a mother’s womb, the infant does not come out with a garland or a gold chain. However the child does come out with its invisible chain of ‘Karma’ – the result of all the actions (karma) that one has done in their previous births. But that ornament is invisible.

To help us live this life well and in order to not have a chain of bad reactions around our neck when we are born in our next life, it is necessary for us to recognise, as a primary lesson, that we should do good deeds in our daily lives. Hence practice, ‘Do good, Be good, and See good.’ That alone will take you to the Divine!

Start the Day with Love, Fill the Day with Love, End the Day with Love. This is the way to the Divine!

What is the most important lesson we must learn from the ancient texts ?

The ancient texts has taught us a lesson that we should regard our actions as being responsible for our sorrows or joys. But as a human being, you should perform whatever actions you have to perform.

Do not think that you will achieve this or that, and do not think that you will be able to do great things without the grace of the Divine.

Do not get tired out in that process. The kind of seeds which you have put in, which have brought you to the position in which you are today, will determine the results that you will get later on.

You may be very intelligent and clever. However all your intelligence and cleverness will not enable you to get over your own Karma.

The Divine prepares a garland of all the good and the bad that you have done as they are and He puts this round your neck when you are born. It is necessary for us to recognise this causal relationship.

We are responsible for the good and the bad that we do, and our desires are in fact merely consequences of this.

Spiritual practices is essential because the effects of karma can be removed by karma alone, just as thorn is removed by another thorn.

How can we relieve ourselves from the tangles of Karmic consequences?

When you cultivate faith and surrender, you will have no concern about the consequences of your actions.

All your thoughts and actions will be pure, saturated with love and conducive to peace, for your actions are no longer your acts, they are His, and you will be free.

Therefore cleanse your hearts and make it a clear mirror, so that the Divine may be reflected therein, in all His full splendor and grandeur.

The desires that cling to the mind are the blemishes that tarnish one’s inner consciousness. Control your senses. Do not yield to their insistent demands for satisfaction.

When a corpse is placed on pyre and it is lit, the corpse and the pyre are both reduced to ashes. So too when the senses are negated, the mind too disappears.

When the mind disappears, delusion dies and liberation is achieved. Remember, faith in the Divine, is the best reinforcement of spiritual victory.

Is there hope for us to be free from our own past “karma”?

You might say that the karma from previous birth must be consumed in this birth and that no amount of grace can save you. Evidently, someone has taught you to believe so.

I assure you that you need not suffer from karma like that. When severe pain torments you, the doctor gives you a morphine injection (pain-killer), and you do not feel the pain though it is there in your body.

Grace is like morphine; the pain is not felt, though you go through it! Grace takes away the malignity of the karma which you undergo.

Just like dated drugs are declared ineffective after a certain date, with Grace, the effect of karma is rendered null, though the account is there! Hence, it is wrong to say that "fate written on the forehead" cannot be rendered ineffective.

Grace can surpass anything; nothing can stand in its way. Remember, it is the grace of the Divine!

At times, we may feel that the amount of worship or good work we are doing is insufficient to attract the Divine’s Grace and change our lives. Why does it happen so?

Many grieve: “It is said that having the vision of a holy person destroys our sin. Well, I have had spiritual practices not once but many times, and yet, my evil fate has not left me and I am suffering even more than before.”

True, you may have come and had not one, but several spiritual practices, and you may have sowed fresh seeds secured from the Divine — seeds of love, faith, devotion, good company, pure thoughts, remembering His name, etc.

So you have learnt the art of intensive cultivation and soil preparation. You have just now sown the seeds in well-prepared fields of cleansed hearts. The troubles and anxieties you experience presently are the crop collected from your previous harvests, so do not grieve and lose heart.

Everyone must consume the grain they’ve already stored from their previous harvests. Bear with it patiently, until the new harvest comes in!

Why is the “present” precious and powerful?

When we are hungry, we eat food to satisfy our hunger. It takes about two hours for the food in the mouth to go to the stomach, get digested and yield strength and nourishment to the body.

Similarly, there may be a time gap between actions and their consequences. A seed does not become a tree as soon as you sow it.

The seed first germinates, becomes a sapling, and then grows into a tree in due course of time. The entire tree is within a tiny seed. You only see the seed, not the entire tree hidden in it.

Similarly, you must remember that your future is contained in the actions performed by you in the present. You imagine your future and wait for it. There is no need to wait for it because your future lies in your present!

Your present thoughts, words and deeds determine your future. Therefore make the present sacred, sublime, and purposeful.
