i watched back to back 2 chinese movies about the 1911 Dr Sun Yat Sun's revolution..

1911 - 辛亥革命 (starring Jackie Chan as Wang Keqiang) - 23/9/2011 release date

and

72 Heroes - 英雄喋血 (several HK stars cameo appearances including Eric Tsang and Alan Tam) - 15/9/2011 release date

**************

they are heart wrenching movies that told the stories of corruption, decadence, altruism, sacrifice and patriotism.

when the qing empire became so weak and corrupted, the people suffered tremendously in the hands of foreigners who economically conquered China. britain, for example funded the qing empire in return for importing opium into China and for occupying HK.the portuguese were given macau.

when you reflect on what's happening in our country, there are many similarities...

watch them with a pinch of salt.....although I got to admit some scenes are heart wrenching. I was reading an article that was saying Dr Sun promising more than what Yuan Shikai offered to the Japanese if the Japs were to help him. If the Chinese historians really go deep and look into the records kept in Japan, history might view Dr Sun differently.....but.....every country needs a hero so I doubt the Chinese would do it.....

I can understand why Dr Sun agreed to offer Manchuria to Japan if they help him because in his times, Manchus are not Han.....they are 'invaders' so offering Manchuria is like Chiang Kai Shek offering Japan to America during WW2 if the Amercians were to help him to throw the Japs out. Nevertheless Dr Sun is a great man......

yeah....history is always written by the victors...

unfortunately, manchuria (or was it manchukuo, a later name) encompassed the bulk of LiaoNing province. there, Hans or Chinese lived...

what's worst? the decaying qing imperials or the japs who invaded China for resources?
