An Alternative Retirement Lifestyle for Adventure Seekers

By Steve McDonald

In the past few years, I can’t count the number of people who’ve cashed in and hit the road – in RVs, trailers, and in some cases, walking, strolling and biking around the world.

Computers, the internet and employers’ willingness to allow people to work remotely have created the opportunity for people to work from anywhere – the South of France or even somewhere in Asia.

Six common myths that can mess up your retirement

Misconceptions about retirement can hurt your savings strategies and make life tougher in your golden years.
For example, more than half of people say they expect to work past age 65, but less than 15 percent of today's retirees kept working that long.

Spending can vary by 50 percent or more per year for retired households.

by Tom Anderson

The so-called 4 percent rule doesn't work for everyone and depends on your lifestyle, health and investment portfolio.

About 30% of U.S. workers over age 60 said they don't plan to retire until at least 70, and 20% said they don't believe they will ever be able to retire

While more than half of people say they expect to work past age 65, less than 15 percent of today's retirees kept working that long

Pros and cons of paying off mortgage before retirement

Retiring a mortgage can reduce stress, increase cash flow and provide an equity cushion.
Advisors warn, however, against using retirement-account funds to pay off home loans.
One argument against paying off a mortgage is the loss of inflation-hedging ability offered by a fixed-rate mortgage, where the bank assumes all risk.

The 7 elements of a successful retirement

By Nick Ventura

Retirement requires flexibility and a comprehensive look at your lifestyle

1. Start with well-defined goals, and revisit them at least annually.
2. Many people get great satisfaction from work.
3. Another aspect of retirement is lifetime learning.
4. Budgeting is more than setting a top-line spending number based on a pre-arranged percentage.
5. Let’s consider income.
6. Take the time to go through your employment history and discover what benefits you may have forgotten.
7. Invest for your whole life.

Staring At Death

Today, I was in a lift in at a popular Shopping Mall.

I was travelling from Level 3 to Basement 4.

There were three of us in the lift. A Malay couple and myself.

When it reached Level G, the Malay couple went out. Thereafter, the lift dropped a few feet.

If the Malay couple were slower by a few seconds, I think that they would be dead as their heads would have been smashed.

I then thoought about exiting on the next floor but the lift started moving and it reached P4.

I quickly exited the lift. After the doors closed, there was a very loud bang.

It's a very funny feeling when you are staring at Death.
