These are the two leaves of the rose. I discovered a technique to make the cut outs more fitting and applied the method on the two leaves. It ends up being very good. Sometimes in doing art projects, you experiment with certain things and it ends up being better or worse, and this turns out to be better. I'm going to apply it to the rest of the project.

This is one of the leaves I'm talking about. I'm very happy with this section.

Image

I applied the same technique again on this leave. The cut outs are very nicely aligned with each other... it's amazing how the gaps can be made so close together. I like it very much.

Image

This is how the overall rose section looks like. Looks good eh? :)

Ok, I've officially ran out of coloured papers to cut out. I've got to buy more coloured paper and do the most difficult section of the project. This will be how it'll turn out to be:

I bought more coloured paper today and proceeded on to probably the most difficult section of the project. Usually the cut out and pasting just take 30 mins, but this part of the project took me 2 hours and it's not even completed.

Fatigue led me to make some minor mistakes, but I decided not to re-do the troubled parts. Not everything has to be perfect. Sometimes, beauty lies in being imperfect.

Pardon my hp camera..really too tired to take a better shot. I love the curl of the hair...it took me 1 hour to just do up the hair. Crazy...

Image

Tried experimenting on do the chinese paper cut method - where a single piece of paper is cut into segments. It didn't work out that well, as you can see from the 'face' part. I won't do that again. While this experimentation failed, I discovered a way to clue up the super tiny pieces. Necessity is the mother of invention. Because I had to clue up the tiny piece, I had to use a toothpick to dab some glue, and then spread it over the cut outs before pasting it. My hands are too trembly and too big to manipulate the tiny pieces.

Image

This is the rough colour palette of the project. I hoped I got the right coloured paper. I really don't have the time to go down to popular again to buy again. This would have to do.

Hi K ge,

Haha, the godzilla and ultraman looks like they are dancing :)

The ultra man looks funny, I tot the little circle should be at the chest, not at the throat? There's still another one near the belly button, haha :)

Here's the latest section of the project - the prince. This is done over two days - the collar and the blue clothing for 1 day, and the hands on the other. The hands are particularly difficult to do because the pieces are really small. I thought the hair is hard, but apparently I was wrong. Fortunately, I had 'trained' myself using a toothpick to pick it up and glue it, so this is not as time consuming as when I did the hair part.

Here's the collar and blue clothing:

This two pics are for the hands. Really took a lot of effort cutting it and pasting...I think this is the smallest part of the whole project.

The hair part of the princess is a nightmare. First of all, the paper I'm cutting is dark brown in colour, so my pencil tracing cannot be clearly seen. Secondly, it is glossy in nature, hence even in direct light, it reflects off irritatingly, make the tracing and cutting extremely frustrating. I had cut two times for each section because the first cutting is either way off the original template or that during the cutting, the picture got a little way off hence the original template had to be adjusted.

Very glad that it's over for this part.

Forgot to add that the dark glossy brown paper is also very thick. It makes cutting thin tiny strips a nightmare at best. You can see it 'popping' out under sunlight.

Image

This is from the second day. I decided not to carry on because it's very very tiring. But on the second day, I am well prepared. I did it in the early afternoon where there is plenty of sunlight. It works better than artificial lighting.

Image

Added the crown and the hairband. This is a piece of cake, after having been 'trained' by the more difficult sections.

Image

Finished section. Actually I pasted a wrong section but made adjustments on the spot. If nobody can see it, the imperfect is fine, haha

Image

I'll finish up the last pony tail part of the hair and things should be much easier from then on.
