Remisier loses RM1.6mil in savings

Bogus stock investment plan promised returns of up to 40% in just 10 minutes

JOHOR BARU: A 69-year-old remisier lost almost RM1.6mil of his life savings after signing up for a so-called stock investment plan that had offered 40% profits.

The man, who was enticed by the offer, clicked on a link provided to get more details. He was then directed to download an app and register an account to track his investments,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Comm Kumar said the remisier transferred RM1,635,000 into several bank accounts since last month as instructed by the scammer.

“Initially, the app displayed profits on his investment. He even managed to withdraw RM44,200.

However, further attempts to withdraw funds failed and the scammer became inaccessible.

“The victim also lost access to the app, which had been deactivated,”.

Johor trader loses RM2.1mil in forex investment scam

JOHOR BARU: A 70-year-old clothing seller suffered has been cheated of about RM2.1mil after falling victim to an online investment scam.

In November 2024, he was added to a WhatsApp foreign exchange investment group.

"Believing the promise of quick profits, the victim transferred RM2,118,000 into several bank accounts as told between November and early December,".

Comm Kumar added that the victim was also directed to download an app to monitor his "investments".

"Upon checking, the app indicated that his investments had generated a profit of RM6,216,000.

"However, when the victim attempted to liquidate his shares and withdraw the profit, he was unable to do so.

Woman loses RM2.2mil in seven-year-long love scam without ever meeting 'beau'

A love scam victim lost millions over nearly a decade without a single face-to-face interaction.

The victim, a 67-year-old woman, first connected with the scammer via Facebook in Oct 2017, entering an online "relationship."

He claimed he wanted to move to Malaysia but couldn't afford the transportation fees. She agreed to help and made her first bank transfer of RM5,000.

"From then on, the suspect frequently asked for more money, citing personal and business issues. She was duped into making 306 bank transfers to 50 different bank accounts, totalling losses of RM2,210,692.60,".

Senior citizen loses RM704,000 to WhatsApp investment scam

An elderly man has lost RM704,000 after falling victim to a fake investment scheme on WhatsApp.

Attracted by the offer, the victim joined the investment scheme known as Saham L-5 Cicc Investment.

Consequently, he made 10 transactions into three different bank accounts, resulting in a loss of RM704,000,".

Nearly RM500,000 in losses linked to Kim Seri tour scandal, says Bukit Aman

Social media influencer Kim Seri had previously issued a public apology and promised to refund customers affected by issues arising from her South Korea travel packages, pledging to settle the matter by or before Feb 1, 2025.

A video went viral on social media showing a woman claiming to be one of Kim Seri’s victims.
She and her group claimed they were stranded at Incheon International Airport in South Korea because there were no flight tickets as promised by the influencer.

The woman claimed that checks at the ticket counter revealed that her name and her group’s names were not in the system. However, she managed to return to Malaysia on Tuesday (Dec 17) with the help of an individual.

Factory manager cheated of over RM150,000 in investment scam
