‘I don’t want to know how much I’ve lost’: Scam victim who transferred $1.19m to syndicate

Wanting to be known only as Grace, the retiree, 67, said that even though she was never involved in crime, she thought about Singapore’s biggest money laundering case that saw 10 foreigners jailed and deported.

Threatened with legal action, she agreed to help in “investigations” and transferred a total of $1.19 million to people claiming to be a bank officer, police investigator and public prosecutors.

Protest outside Bank Negara demands action over RM100mil forex scam

GEORGE TOWN: A massive forex investment scam that has allegedly defrauded 388 victims across multiple countries of RM104.75mil since 2016 has prompted calls for swift action.

The scam, allegedly orchestrated by individuals claiming to be Russian financial experts, promised high annual returns of 20-30%.

The victims, ranging from professionals to retirees, claimed that after payments ceased in 2022, they realised they had been cheated and their profits frozen in the accounts they had no control over.

Teluk Intan company director loses almost RM100,000 to scammers

IPOH: A company director from Teluk Intan has been cheated of RM98,550 over a supposed contract to supply teaching equipment.

The 53-year old woman was contacted over WhatsApp by an individual at 9am on Nov 29.

"The suspect offered the victim a contract to supply a projector (listed as teaching equipment) that cost RM150,000.

"The suspect also provided a fake letter said to be from the 'education office', which the victim believed," .

"The victim said that her company could not supply teaching equipment as her company only dealt with stationery.

"The suspect then gave the victim the number of a 'supplier' to purchase the equipment from," he said.

He added that the victim then contacted the 'supplier' and made three online transfers amounting to a total of RM98,550.
