TOL:-

It's time to remind myself that it's time to prepare for war, especially when it's very peaceful.

Multi-year high, Unlimited QE3, 3Q Window Dressing, US Presidential Election, Japanese's Easing, China's 1t Stimulus, Drahi's "whatever it takes" etc.

What can be more peaceful than the above ?

Is it not time to start checking the defences ? Is it not time to check on your supplies ? Is it not time to prepare for the next war ?

Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak.

The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.

All warfare is based on deception.

To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.

Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.

(Sun Tzu on the Art of War).
