Fixed Deposits

Fixed Deposits

Postby fclim » Thu Oct 30, 2008 2:14 pm

dear fellow huat-huat frens,

eh... a "friend" of mine wants to put some spare cash away in very very safe instrument...

So, I wonder if you know of any other better idea, other than FD?
From my "research", few of the "best" FD rates currently are:
1. BEA - 2 to 2.125% (min. 50k)
3. CIMB - 1.5 - 1.8% (min. 10k)
3. RHB - 1.5 - 1.6% (no state min in advert)
4. Fanatiq - 1.4 - 1.6% (min. 3k)

I looked at SGS Bonds seems like not as good for short periods.
Money market is deemed "risky" now for my "friend"...

So, before I give my "friend" the final answer, maybe you can share your expert advice? :)

Thanks for any advice!

Have fun,
fc

Does the Singapore govt's extended guarantee on deposits extend to the foreign banks here, or just the local banks?

FC, there's a FD thread on hardwarezone that will better suit your needs. But yes, for "normal" amount, BEA seems to be the best deal now. Gov insures all deposits above the 20k SDIC insured amount, even for foreign banks registered locally.

hi k,
sorry for not being clear, i meant money market funds... coz my impression of FD is that there "no risk" of capital loss, but fixed interest... Money market funds, "small" risk of capital loss is there but with higher interest, maybe 2.5%?

Hi caseyc,
Yes, thanks for pointing to the thread in hardwarezone... yes, seems like more relevant...

well... i guess seems like FD is the way forward....

Thanks for viewing and replying... :)

have fun,
