Trump threatens Mexico's biggest cash source

by Patrick Gillespie

Between January and November of 2016, $24.6 billion flowed back to the pockets of Mexicans from friends and relatives living overseas.

That's even higher than what Mexico earns from its oil exports -- $23.2 billion in 2015. And almost all of that cash comes from the U.S.

Mexico Rejects Accepting Central American Asylum Seekers, Retaliates against US Tariffs

Mexico will reject the US proposal of accepting all Central American asylum seekers, Reuters reported.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said some US officials claimed Mexico as a "safe third country", which forces Central Americans to seek asylum in the US to apply for it.

Ebrard stated it is not an option acceptable to the country.

Mexican Economy Minister Graciela Marquez said the US tariffs are harming all 50 states in the US and undermine the value chains, consumers and trade-related works of the two countries.

Mexico will retaliate after US implementation of tariffs, or seek resolutions from multilateral organizations, to counter-attack on US goods.

For the last five years, the number of undocumented immigrants from Mexico leaving the U.S. to return to Mexico has been higher than the number of undocumented immigrants crossing into the U.S. from Mexico, according to the Pew Research Center.

And now the Post is reporting another trend in migration from the U.S. to Mexico: American citizens who are drawn to Mexico’s warm weather as a remote-work or retirement destination, or who are moving to Mexico along with their returning, undocumented parents.
