Middle East Conflict

A young Palestinian man was found in Israel; he had a bomb strapped to him. And when it detonated, it didn't detonate properly and he was wounded.

But he did not get the triumphant results that he was seeking; he did not blow himself up and the people that were around him. And so he was captured.

And when the newsman was asking him, why did you do this? He said, "They killed my friend and I wanted to die."

In other words, it was that simple: "They killed my friend and I wanted to die." We think that those pure and simple words speak to this (Middle East Crisis) more clearly than all other words that have been spoken.

It is that feeling that you've done this to me, so I'll do this to you, then you'll do this to me, and then I'll do this to you.

And what happens in that is: It just gets bigger and bigger, and bigger.

And no one ever wins. There is no triumph that ever comes from any of that.

talk is cheap.... wait until, you personally are deeply hurt by others...then see if you can rise above the pain inside to do the right thing...it is not easy to truly forgive, even though we must

Mahathir will be up late tonight to see if Palestine will be admitted into the UN membership.

Decision will be announced in a few hours ... and eyes on US if they will veto against this application...

Non-event. Of course, the US will veto.

And why do you need the UN, when it's controlled by a few strong countries, who can unilaterally decid,e whether they want to take out another smaller country or not ?

Reminder: Iraq and their supposedly WMD program

Palestinians want statehood bid decided in two weeks by Tom Perry

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - The Palestinians want the United Nations Security Council to decide on their bid for full membership of the world body within a fortnight, a leading official in the Fatah movement of President Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday.

Lebanon's U.N. ambassador said the Security Council would convene Monday to discuss the application after Abbas presented it to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Friday.

Ahmad did not elaborate on what course of action the Palestinians would pursue if the Security Council rejected the request, a likely scenario considering the United States has said it will veto the move.

In his speech to the General Assembly Friday after presenting the request, Abbas said: "I do not believe that anyone with a shred of conscience can reject our application ... and our admission as an independent state."

Although Israel, US, Canada & Germany does not want to recognize Palestine as a nation, we will recognize them here.

==============================

UNESCO Gives Palestinians Full Membership

PARIS (Reuters) - The United Nations' cultural agency decided on Monday to give the Palestinians full membership of the body, a vote that will boost their bid for recognition as a state at the United Nations.

UNESCO is the first U.N. agency the Palestinians have sought to join as a full member, since President Mahmoud Abbas applied for full membership of the United Nations on September 23.

The United States, Canada and Germany voted against Palestinian membership.

Brazil, Russia, China, India, South Africa and France voted in favor. Britain abstained.

And this is how BS works ...

U.S. cuts UNESCO funding after Palestinian membership voteBy Josh Levs, CNN

NEW: Report: Palestine will seek full membership in the World Health Organization

The vote "further removes the possibility" for a peace deal, Israel says

(CNN) -- The United States is cutting funding to the U.N. education and science agency UNESCO after the agency voted to accept a Palestinian bid for full membership, the U.S. State Department said Monday.

"Today's vote by the member states of UNESCO to admit Palestine as member is regrettable, premature and undermines our shared goal of a comprehensive just and lasing peace in the Middle East," said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.

The United States was going to make a $60 million payment in November, and will now not do so, she said.

Some U.S. lawmakers had called on the Obama administration to withhold funding to UNESCO if the measure was approved.

The lawmakers cited U.S. law, which states that funds must be denied to any organization granting the Palestine Liberation Organization "the same standing as member states."

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Mission to UNESCO -- the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization -- said the United States contributes $80 million a year.

The U.S. contribution comprises 22% of the agency's funding in its regular budget, a spokeswoman for UNESCO said.

The vote, which required two-thirds approval by UNESCO members, passed with 107 in favor, 14 against, and 52 abstentions.

It was the first such vote by a part of the world body.

Huge applause broke out at the meeting in Paris when the results of the vote were announced.

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, speaking after the vote, said she is concerned for the financial stability of the organization.

"I believe it is the responsibility of all of us to make sure that UNESCO does not suffer unduly," she said, specifically citing concerns about losing funding from "our largest contributor, the United States."

Bokova said the "admission of a new member state is a mark of respect and confidence."

UNESCO, which is headquartered in Paris, works to promote peace and sustainable development through education, the sciences and culture.

"The ones who voted negatively are isolating themselves along with Israel on the wrong side of justice and the law.

And if the U.S. continues to threaten to boycott or withdrawal from organizations that recognizes Palestine it might find itself outside most global institutions with diminishing influence and standing," she said.

There was laughter in the room after Israel voted no.

The Palestinian Authority-run Wafa news agency reported late on Monday that Palestine is preparing to apply for full membership in the World Health Organization.
