WHAT SAUDI KING SALMAN WANTS FROM HIS TOUR OF CHINA, MALAYSIA

Ignore the theatrics, the multibillion-dollar investment deals and even the uncertainty over US hegemony – when the leader of the House of Al Saud is in town, Iran, Islamic State and ultra-conservatism are never far from the surface

Saudi Arabia burning through $6.5 billion per month

Saudi Arabia has long maintained a fixed currency peg, but low oil prices have forced the government to burn through foreign exchange in order to keep up government spending and keep the currency stable.

Cash is down to about $500 billion from a peak of $737 billion in 2014.

The rate of decline is worrying although not yet a crisis.

Trump’s Middle East Foreign Policy is a Disaster Waiting to Happen

By Michael Krieger

Saudi Arabia is at risk of becoming a major destabilizing influence in the Arab world, German intelligence has warned.

Internal power struggles and the desire to emerge as the leading Arab power threaten to make the key Western ally a source of instability, according to the BND intelligence service.

Saudi Arabia has previously been accused of supplying arms and funding to jihadist groups fighting in Syria, including Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

The Saudis are the biggest exporters of terrorism and radical ideology on the planet, and also played an instrumental role in the attacks of 9/11.

The sad truth is that ISIS seems to have been pretty much created by Western intelligence agencies with Saudi and other Gulf country funding
