The cement and steel companies benefited from the recent earthquake in china.

However not sure what those landed houses in Queensland are made of. If they are made from wood like those in North America, then perhaps only timber companies will benefit and not cement or steel ones. Can't think of any listed ones.

Horrendous inflation on its way (from The Age, Melbourne):-
Retail fruit prices jumped an extraordinary 15 per cent between the September and December quarters of last year, and vegetable prices 11 per cent.

Along the east coast the rises were even steeper, with fruit prices up 17 per cent in Sydney and Brisbane and 16 per cent in Melbourne. Vegetable prices climbed 15 per cent and 10 per cent.

Treasurer Wayne Swan warned consumers yesterday of a further spike in fruit and vegetable prices in the March quarter.

He outlined official figures showing 80 per cent of Australia's beetroot is produced in flood-affected areas, as well as 60 per cent of sweet potatoes, zucchini, mandarins and spring onions.

''Many families will be doing it tough at the check-out when the price hikes flow through in the weeks and months ahead,'' Mr Swan said, responding to an otherwise benign inflation result of just 0.4 per cent for the quarter and 2.7 per cent for the year to December.

Oz is having a string of serious problems. Qantas, again :o ! One of her planes has been forced to land in BKK because of mechanical problems. Seriously, the flood levy will be a very tidy sum. AUD$$ will dip :?:
