HDB: issuer of bond
5.07%: coupon ie. yield on issue price typically $1
090921: bond matures on 2009 Sep 21
10k: Lot size of 10k units

are securities like these as liquid as stocks?

No, very illiquid

any pros and cons investing in them?

Pros: marginally higher yield than S'pore govt securities (SGS) at issue, thereafter depends on buy price
Cons: marginally higher risk than S'pore govt securities, very illiquid

Best to hold this type of investment to maturity.
If looking at very conservative yield investment, better to just buy SGS thru local banks, can sell thru them too, hence liquid.
Not what but when.

HDB is issuing 3 year papers @1.55% coupon rate.
Such cheap financing and HDB is charging a nose and ears for their flats

Look at the last issue. It's in denominations of S$250,000 and initially placed with institutional investors.
A pte investor, I suppose, can approach your banker to get them on the secondary market.

I believe you're referring to "HDB S$400M3.805%N110714" ?

This is not accessible to retail except maybe via the bankers, and even so, you won't get 3.805% since the quoted price will be above PAR.

In the past, there were some HDB bonds that were accessible directly via SGX, but they've all expired. What's left now are those from LTA & JTC, say "LTA n4.17%160510 10k". These are traded in 10k units with usually poor liquidity.

Assuming you buy 10k units of "LTA n4.17%160510 10k" at $1.07 (PAR = $1) today and hold it till expiry:

Cost = $10700 + brokerage fees
Expiry date = 10 May 2016
Accumulative Interest received on expiry = 6 x $417 = $2502
Principal received on expiry = $10000
Total returns on expiry = $12502 - $10700 = $1802 (assuming $0 brokerage)
Nominal Interest per year = ($1802/6)/10700 = 2.8%

Thanks bluechip for your details,

In think no point go thru all the hassle get lock-in and couple with low liquidity to exchange for a miserable 2.8%, cant even hedge inflation. All bank are blood sucker.

Might as well park in Preference share and lay back to collect 5%.
